 "Piece of Junk" 2010-03-08
By J. Sircus
I bought this for my son's 6th birthday. He has loved playing it and has been very tolerant of this toy. He's never played a hand held toy before, so I am sure he thinks that it's malfunctions are normal. Anyway, we constantly have to reinsert the game cartridge (we have "Wolverine"), and then you have to restart it. At about the 3rd time, it starts working normally again. The thing is only a month old! Now, it is in stuck mode on the "Health and Safety Warning" that always preceeds play time. So, it's been charging on the base (we purchased separately) and the rechargable batteries needed to be taken out just to shut the message off. Now it won't even turn back on and when it does, it will ask us to reinsert the cartridge. The thought of this product is everything I as a parent wanted for my young boy in a hand held game system, but the aggrevation of its malfunctions make me want to warn every well intentioned mom not to bother (or complain to the company).

"Don't waste your TIME or money !" 2010-02-18
By Kim Makoi (San Francisco, CA)
This is a great toy *IF*/when it works. I should have trusted my instincts when I first heard that it needed to be hooked up to a computer for downloads, "updates" etc. -- that couldn't be a good thing... My son loves it when it works, and is disappointed when I have to return it. The first one we got was defective (only worked on AC power - did not work at all on battery power) so I had to return it on day 1 to the retail store, but then I ordered one from amazon since I saw it was about $40 cheaper than the retail store I got the first one from. Well, guess what? I have to return the one from amazon as well -- same problem - it doesn't recognize the rechargeable battery pack OR the regular batteries, plus I can hear a rattling sound in the unit (straight out of the box). This is a poorly made product with a lot of inherent defects. I was surprised, because my son has had a Leapster for more than 2 years and it still works GREAT. Hopefully I can sell the cartridges on eBay and get SOME of my money back.

 "Easy to setup" 2010-02-13
By Alex T. Nguyen (Chantilly, VA USA)
Setup was a breeze. After entering the requisite info into the device itself and installing the CD we plugged in the USB cord and were up and running in under 5 minutes.

We've got a Kindergartner and the 1st level for 1st graders was fine for him.

Highly recommend.

"My Kids Love This Game System!" 2010-02-06
By J. Heldt (US)
I was hesitant to buy a Didj because of the negative reviews, but we have been pleasantly surprised. I bought this for my 7 year old for Christmas and it has gotten a lot of use since then. We haven't had one problem with it. It connects and downloads from the computer easily and quickly. The games play well, the batteries last a good long time, and both my kids love it. I bought a Leapster 2 for my 5 year old, but he always wants to play the Didj and says he likes it better than his game. The only downside is that there are not a lot of games for it. They both love the Jetpack Hero game. But we also have Indian Jones, Tiki Tropics, Neopia, and I just bought a Spongebob game. I wish they would add a game save option, and they also could add more educational acitivites to the game play.

"DIDJ IS JUNK FROM LEAPFROG." 2010-02-01
By Pao Lee
Both my boys have had the leapters and leapters2. I thougt that leapfrog made good products. I was WRONG. I bought the DIDJ for my son's birthday, since I knew the leapsters were good products. The DIDJ is a piece of junk. The first problem is that it does not alway recognized the game cartrige. We would have to pull it out and install the cartrige over and over for it to take. Sometimes we would just give up and quit. Second, it has a hard time turning on. If the game cartrige is not in just prefect the unit does not want to come on. If the battery is slightly low, the unit will not come on either. Third, the games are very limited. There is not a large selection to chose from. Only a small selection.

I had to contact leapfrog for a replacement of the DIDJ after only two months of use. NO abuse.

DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON THE DIDJ. IT IS JUNK. BUY A DS.
