Like other reviewers stated, this is a big loser...nothing smart about it. Sure the seat doesn't move much, that doesn't bother me. What burns my cookies is the music/sounds don't match input. So my daughter will touch it enough to activate it, yet it will start counting as if she's rowing. OK, counting is good, but I don't know how much is sinking in when she's looking at the thing as if it's possessed.
The monkey that looks like a small hat in the pictures is a pop-up that pops up randomly for no reason.
There's no volume adjustment.
If someone gives you one, just put it on eBay or something. Your child will be much happier with the proceeds from the sale.

Seat doesn't move enough (only 2-3 inches) and is too long for kids in the age range to reach. Fun monkey with catchy tunes.

This toy is an absolute waste of plastic! I have 3 young kids and none of them have any interest in this. You can only move the seat a couple of inches and it really just does hardly anything. Vtech should be embarrassed to sell a product like this--it makes me never want to buy anything else from them.

Normally Vtech makes toys that are educational and fun to use. This one is a big dud. First of all, the rowing. The seat moves MAYBE three inches, I think more like two. It's hard to do any rowing, even for a little one, with a seat that moves such a small amount. The handle bars do move back and forth, but without a seat that moves well with it, the whole front end of the toy ends up rocking back and forth, which I think will break in time. The toy says it is for 18+ months, but again the position of the seat and the distance it will row makes this toy only useful for kids over three feet tall. When my daughter sits on the seat she cannot reach the foot pedals at the front of it. My son, whose feet do touch, is three years old and has absolutely no interest in it. As for educational, it says three colors, three fruits and counts to three. I'm not impressed.

I purchased the Jungle Gym Monkey Moves Smart Seat for my almost-17 month old as a Christmas present. The suggested age range is 18mos - 3 yrs, so I knew going in that he might have to grow into it. WOW! His little legs are nowhere near long enough to reach from the seat to the foot pads. In fact, I have a 3yr old who is really barely able to reach all the way. I might add, neither of my kids are small for their age.
Here are the overall pros and cons:
Pros: They both seem to love the toy and are constantly fighting over who gets to sit on it. I have to admit that it is cute. The music is fun and upbeat, and overall it seems very sturdy, although it is extremely lightweight. It is easy to clean, and the pop-up monkey is a fun attraction.
Cons: I don't think my boys will follow the guided instructions which are meant to get kids moving/teach them numbers and letters. The words get somewhat lost in all the music and lights. The "bouncy seat" as described by the manufacturer is not bouncy at all. In fact, it only moves forward and backwards by a few inches. It would be nice if it were possible to shorten the length between the seat and the foot rests. I think this would make it easier for little ones to reach the handlebar from the seat. The seat is sort of rickety and since it doesn't slide back and forth very much, my kids end up forgoing it all together and just straddling it to play with the handlebar.
Overall, I am somewhat disappointed with the product. I guess I expected something more akin to exercise "rowing" machines, only in a kiddy version. Unfortunately, this toy neither slides far enough nor moves smoothly enough to really encourage a fun workout. The kids seem to like to play with it, though, so I am giving it 3 stars overall. I am thankful I only paid a fraction of the retail price.
