This was a Christmas gift that I bought for my children. What a great product! I have an 8 yr old and 5 yr old -- and each have games suited for their ages. I use the games as rewards for good homework and then they play a game that reinforces that homework, all while having tons of fun! Math equations, pattern recognition, reading, geography-- there are games for almost every subject. And that's just what comes with the default game. Other games dive into science, etc.
I am disappointed to learn that this system is discontinued by VTech -- especially when it has such high reviews. I don't understand that decision at all. However -- this also means that I got the system and 5 games for under $100 == so that was a blessing!
There will be no new games coming out, but right now my kids are thrilled with that they have. Each game has three sections - Game Mode, Knowledge World and Creative Workshop. Each section has multiple choices of activities -- so they will stay busy for a while.
I do recommend that you purchase the optional memory card. I tried saving money and not getting it, but now that we've tried the games out -- it really would be best for the kids. -- so I finally ordered one. They get to save their "story mode" games and creative designs. It's worth the extra money.
All in all - wonderful, affordable product that I wish was still in circulation. I would recommend to anyone with elementary age children.

My daughter got this when she was younger and enjoyed it for a few months. She quickly outgrew it and started playing the Wii, so I put it away for a couple of years. Well my son is 3 now so I decided to set it up again. I figured I would see what new games are available since we last used the system and low and behold the same 7 games we already have are the only ones still available. I am guessing they stopped making them. I am sure my son and daughter will enjoy it for a couple of weeks, but playing the same games will get boring. I love that they have to answer an educational fact to move on, but I do find controlling the characters to be a little difficult. With a normal system you have much more of a range to move about but with this it is a little tricky to go exactly where you want to go. I only give this 3 stars only because there are only 7 games for it. I love that the games only reveal the cd when they are in the system so the kids can not scratch them. What an ingenious idea. Sad they no longer make games for it though.

I looked all over for this system and was unable to fine one in any store, I was thrilled when I found it online and the deal was better then any other place that I looked.

Bought this for my youngest daughter when she was 7, she's 9 now and still enjoys playing with it. Sadly it's hard to find games for it now. If you can still find one with games, I would recommend snatching it up.

We've been burned by V-Tech and their inferior products twice before. The V-Smile system only worked for a few months; the V-Pocket worked for exactly 13 days. So, I suppose this is pretty much our fault for buying our 7 year old what he REALLY wanted for his birthday.
Imagine my complete lack of surprise when I pulled this system out of the box on his birthday and it didn't work at all. We've tried all of the "Troubleshooting Tips" three times and tried various outlets in the house. The thing does not work. When we called V-Tech about the issue, we were told that since we bought the unit 3.5 months ago (when it was on a great sale), it is not their problem. Lovely customer service.
Save your money and always buy LEAP FROG! We've never had a single problem (read: heartbroken child) over Leap Frog products.
