"Decreased Screen Response - Wasted Money" 2010-05-12
By T. Masters (Tulsa, OK)
PROS:

1. It worked great as a no-skid surface on the bottom of my coffee cup.

CONS:

1. Touch screen was much less responsive than without that infernal shield. Made phone extremely difficult to use.

2. After leaving it to dry and settle for 12 unused hours, the shield had a huge ripple on it which could not be fixed without reapplying it.

3. There was a permanent splotch about 2mm wide in the middle of the shield. I don't think that I ever touched the adhesive side with anything, but once that happens you are out of luck.

4. Sliding my finger on the shield once installed, it was not smooth and slippery, but sticky to the touch, thus the sliding gesture was impossible to do with this thing.

"terrible product, terrible customer support" 2010-02-11
By Josef F. Ferguson
I purchased this product yesterday an ironically-named brick-and-mortar retailer and have found it very lacking. I spent close to 2 hours trying over and over again to apply the thing to the screen on my Motorola Droid. Every time, there were visible stripes on the surface (thick, like tiger stripes) that indicated a production fault in the film. I ran my own sign and banner shop for several years, so I know a thing or two about applying adhesive-backed films. This was not, I assure you, an application error on my part. This was simply a defective product.

When I contacted Zagg (who informed me in a reply email that they were Zealous About Great Gadgets), they offered to send me a replacement. Of course, for them to do so, I would need to provide a credit or debit card so they could charge me a "modest" shipping and handling charge and pre-authorize my card for the total cost of the replacement! Then, I would have to return the defective piece back to them (at my cost) within 25 days or I would be charged for the replacement part. I replied that, while I had no problem paying shipping back for the defective one (even if I needed to do so first), they really should send me the new one without any charge to me at all if they really stood by their product. I told them that would pass on their offer.

I've decided to try and get my money back from that ironically-named brick-and-mortar retailer. If that fails, I'll just consider it a $30 (!!!) lesson and move on.

My advice? Stay the heck away from invisibleSHIELD and all Zagg products. Terrible line, terrible company.

 "Invisibleshield for Droid" 2010-02-10
By S. M. Snodgrass (Louisville, KY)
I'm a big fan of the Invisibleshield. I bought one for my last phone and for my iPod. Installation isn't extremely difficult but lining everything up well requires some patience and isn't necessarily easy either. Even though I took extra care, a piece of dust still managed to get under the protector which isn't awful but noticeable. Though it does make the Droid look "older," the protection it provides is well worth it. I would definitely recommend the product.

"Do NOT use for the Droid!" 2010-02-09
By Adam Scaduto (South Plainfield, NJ USA)
I purchased this invisibleShield for my Motorola Droid, as I have had them for other devices (my iPod Touch is shielded and I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT). Installing it is rather tedious; it took about 1/2 hour to get the darn thing positioned correctly. After the installation, I found I really had to hammer on my touchscreen to get it to work; the Droid's screen just isn't that sensitive. I removed it, and my touch screen went crazy. Wouldn't respond, buttons clicking themselves, scrolling went nuts, I couldn't get it to turn off because I couldn't tap anything on screen. I had to pull the battery (and risk screwing the phone up).

My advice is avoid the shield for the Droid like the Plague. If you have anything else(iPod/iPhone, BlackBerry, cameras, etc) I highly reccomend it. But it nearly broke my Droid!

"Good for minimalists, but requires patience to apply" 2010-02-06
By J. Kim
I've used Zagg invisibleSHIELD products before, so I'm used to the tedious application process -- pros and cons follow (I also added pics to the product gallery). Before you buy, I recommend you go to the Zagg site (google it) and see the demo videos online for how to apply this product (see sponge demo). It comes with a wet sponge to apply, and a plastic card to smooth out bubbles.

PROS

- Clear, minimal design adds no bulk

- Covers all exposed surfaces (except inputs/buttons) with precision

- Has a tactile, grippy feel, keeps the phone from sliding off your dash (it doesn't hinder touch screen performance - not as smooth-feeling as the plain glass surface, but that's the trade-off for protecting the screen).

- After a few days, the cover seems to "fuse" to the Droid's surface nicely, eliminating all air bubbles (but not dust specks)

- If you do it right, the cover stays on for at least a year

CONS

- Application is tedious, and requires patience. Took me about 45 min. Lots of pieces to apply.

- If you get a speck of dust or fiber between the skin and the phone, I hope you like it because it's there forever.

- Price seems high for what is, essentially, a clear plastic sticker, but I haven't been able to find anything that I like better for less.

Bottom line: Great if you prioritize clear, light, and minimal design. Not great if you're bad at applying these types of things and/or will go nuts by an errant speck of dust on your screen for the life of the product.
