We LOVE this product!! We actually own TWO of them. We have 6yo son, 3yo daughter, and 2yo daughter. The two girls absolutely LOVE this toy. They actually play it EVERY SINGLE day! I have noticed the 3 yo picking-up on letter recognition and telling left/right. The 6yo hasn't played this much since he got a Game Boy, however he still enjoys playing games on it.
The kids have dropped this several times with no problems on durability. The mouse has not come un-attached either despite them carrying the laptop around by the cord or the mouse.
We are actually purchasing one for my 2 1/2 yo niece for Christmas.
I would recommend this toy to EVERYONE with children ages 2-5.

This laptop has been wonderful. We got it for my daughter for Christmas when she was 2 1/2. She's 3 1/2 now and still loves it. It has many games, activities: recognizing letters and "typing" them, letter sounds, which one is the biggest?, match the object to its shadow, numbers 1 to 10, which number is more?, which number is out of order?, match the capital letter to the lower case letter, etc. My daughter taught herself her numbers and alphabet this way before she was 3.
Pros: Very light and portable, with a handle to be carted around. Has a screen just like mommy and daddy's laptop. Extremely durable. My daughter has hauled it around and dropped it a hundred times (even thrown it once) without having anything break. The cord that connects the mouse and computer is also very durable. My daughter hauls it around with the mouse hanging by this cord, and it still works great. The monkey narrator is very positive. It has a volume adjustment button. Gives a child some exposure to using a mouse. The batteries last an extremely long time. In a year of regular use, I've only replaced the batteries once.
Cons: The mouse easily comes off the buttons attaching it to the computer (although it can be used whether it's attached or not). The volume control button is not hidden in a discreet place for parents. It is on the main console, so anytime I turned it down, my daughter could figure out how to turn it back up. After extended use, the voice and sounds can get annoying, but that's to be expected with any electronic toy.
One more note: My daughter is a leftie, and this mouse is on the right side. But I figure she's just going to have to learn to use her right hand for using a mouse anyway since it's not practical to be changing sides all the time on shared computers throughout her life, so this is not a big deal to me, but it could be to you.

The sound is great. It's enjoyable to hear compared to other laptops. Other laptops don't have good quality sound. This one keeps kids interested. I don't think anyone should wait to get this at the age of 3. I bought this when my son was 9 months. Thinking he is just going to grow and use this at a later age. Glad I was wrong. At the age of 1 he just open and close the laptop and push the button for sound. But towards the end of 1 going into 2. He knew his abc's uppercase and lower case. He can also count to 30. I couldn't believe he knew all this at the age of 2. Always thought kids learn this in pre-school. But yes, You can have them start early and be ready for school. This is one of the best items I bought for my son.

I don't think this laptop is bad at all. It's small and works well. Lots of learning activities and teaches them a lot. My daughter loves it.

We bought the Vtech tote and go laptop plus for our son for his 3rd birthday October 27th from Kohls.
This weekend, March 5th, the button on the mouse came off and we can't get it to stay on. It doesn't look like any pieces broke, so I'm not sure why it came off.
Today I exchanged it for another one at Kohls and when we got it home, the new one doesn't play sounds. I turned the volume all the way up, but still no sound. This is really disappointing because it is a fun learning tool and my kid loves having his own laptop just like mommy and daddy. He will be very disappointed to no longer have one.
This was my first and last Vtech toy that I will purchase. Their product durability and quality is poor.
