My old leap pad was 6 years old and i couldn't find any in the stores, so i hopped on Amazon and found a great price for one. My kids are constantly using it and the batteries don't wear down quickly. We, as a family, love it.

My son got the Leappad plus writing for Christmas, and we really liked it till, I changed the batteries on day and the pen no longer recognized book. I tried calling customer service several times, left messages, sent e-mails, no one answered. I even called the customer service supervisor and left a message, still no answered. I hope someone can benefit from my review.

We bought the Leappad Plus Writing last Christmas for our 4 yr old. First off the pencil was not attached inside the pen and was easily lost. After 6 months of using it some, our son got more books and wanted to use it. I went to turn it on and it didn't work. Figured the batteries needed changed. Changed them and still didn't work. It angers me after what I paid.

We bought this book several years ago when our son was 4. Hes now 8 and still can enjoy the book at times. We are always wary of these "systems" that you have to keep buying new books/games/carts for. You never know if they are going to stay around long enough to make it worth your while..The first one we got, messed up in about 2 weeks, we exchanged for the same one. This one did last longer, about 4 years. Now we hoped the investment of leappad plus about 15 books would last through both our kids, however the leappad now skips, doesnt recognize the carts, shuts off at random times..This is frustrating for our 4 year old, so we have put it on the shelf for now. I wrote the company asking about defective products, no answer yet. I will probably buy the basic leap pad so we can at least use the books we already own.honestly we never really used the writing feature anyway, and we lost the mech pencil pretty early on.. I will say my kids love it, i think its a great learning tool that keeps kids interested. Anyone who says their children lost interest is crazy-there are games, voices, stories, sports..its great, without being video-gamey. Also the price listed here is much more than we paid in the store, it cant have gone up that much! check around for better prices.
