I bought this for my 16 mo. old son at christmas. I hummed and hawed about wether or not to buy it for a while now. I'm so glad I did. He loves it! Great for the car too! We drive home after dark and he loves to play with it in the dark because all the lights. Every was right about the microphone...it's lame but we don't care. The rest of the toy makes up for it.

This item was purchased for my son's 1st birthday by my sister. He loved it immediately as he loves music, and all the little animal noises are really cute. Unfortunately the sound effect button for the percussion noises (bottom left large orange button) didn't work and we couldn't hear any drum noises. I contactly Chicco via e-mail and with only a picture e-mailed to them of the item, they sent me a replacement. Too bad that the replacement also had a percussion button that could barely be heard, so I think it's a manufacturing problem. Now after 4 months of playing with it, I noticed that a couple noises on the joystick aren't working, even though the rest of the item is working (so ostensibly the batteries don't need to be changed). I'm assuming again this is a defect in the manufacturing, but other than that, the toy is great. Lots of great sounds, nice tunes and easy for baby to take from room to room. I'm looking at getting the Chicco guitar next!

Like chicco's other toys, this one is of very good quality too. It is very sturdy and very colorfull. We bought this toy a few days ago and this is really a great toy. It works great and has super cute sounds. It has 20+ prerecorded melodies and is endless fun for little ones. Compared to other guitars out there it has more melodies and functions than any other you can find on the market. Fabulous toy for a great price too.

My daughter loves music so I thought a toy that lets her sing along and hear herself would be a hit. She does like to play with it but the songs are really fast and not easy to sing with. I love this toy. The songs are fun, educational and not annoying like some can be. When we first started playing with this toy I loved watching the screen. There's a little face that mouthes the words, various animations and each mode uses the screen in different ways. There are three modes for various play which I'll go into detail below.



The alphabet mode plays four songs: the uppercase alphabet song, the lower case alphabet song, Annie Ooo, and the alphabet song. The uppercase alphabet song vocalizes the alphabet while flashing the uppercase letters on the screen. The lowercase alphabet song does the same only the screen flashes the lowercase letters. Annie Ooo takes a letter of the alphabet and you get to hear the sound. So the letter M becomes Mannie Moo, Z - Zannie Zoo, etc. The alphabet song only plays the tune, no vocalization of the letters.



The number mode plays three songs: 20 little leap frogs, Birdie bye-bye, the days of the week. On twenty little leap frogs the screen displays the number and the corresponding quantity of dots for numbers 1-20. Birdie bye-bye starts with 5 birds and counts them down. Each time one says goodbye the number decreases. The screen shows the number and the dots for the birds. The days of the week just sings a cute little song and goes through the days of the week with a few verses.



The music mode plays five songs: Old McDonald, take me out to the ball game, twinkle twinkle little star, the itsy bitsy spider, and pop goes the weasel. All of these songs are background music only, no vocalization. This is the one thing I would change. It'd be nice to have the words in this mode.



Overall I think this is a great toy. I'm not sure why there's a small parts warning because unless the toy gets broke, there aren't any pieces that come off. It's one device with a push button, a turn dial and a sliding switch for on and two volume levels. Nothing comes off it and I've pulled on the dial and haven't been able to loosen it. My daughter is two and it doesn't hold her attention unless I'm sitting with her playing, counting and singing. Once again, well done LeapFrog!

I downgraded my review, due to the moronic Demo feature, which is virtually impossible to figure out. Here's the solution: there's a zigzag slit to the right of the batteries. For our package, there was no pull-tab. So, we got tweezers & pulled out a clear plastic tab (about 1/4 of a postage stamp), found in this slit. Now, you should be able to hear the songs in their entirety. LeapFrog toys are fine, but their packaging designers are sadistic.
