This is the first and so far only cartridge I've bought for my son, who's 3 and 3/4. He's taken to it immediately. It's already noticeably improved his pen control, introduced him to the concept of jokes (he especially likes "Why was 6 scared of 7? Because 7 8 9"), and has been his first taste of a computer-like device. The concept, tone and even the music are just right. If the other Leapster games are as good as this one I'll be very pleased.

I gave this to my 6yr yesterday for his birthday. He loved playing the game...when it worked. Within 1 hour of playing, 2 of the games on the cartridge were disengaged or locked up. He couldn't access them anymore. Initially I thought he had done something to the cartridge but, after some research online, I discovered that many people have had the same problems with Animal Genius. Some have even reported 3 out of the 4 games being locked after 2 to 4 animals were identified (which doesn't take long). I wish I would have done more research before purchasing this game, but I never expected I would have to do such a thing, especially for a game costing over [...]?! Although this game is educational and fun for children, save your money for something that gives more game time. I am highly disappointed Leapster would put out such a poor quality item, not to mention not fixing a bugged game still being sold to unsuspecting, well meaning parents.

I bought this for my 4.5 year old son, who is a huge animal lover. He absolutely loved the game at first and the educational value was terrific. However, as others have said, once you get to a certain point in the game, 2 out of 4 of the mini games stop working. Unfortunately for my son, the two games that no longer worked were his favorites. Not sure why the game has this feature, and like others, I thought that there was a problem with the game at first. At this point, he is just signing in as "guest" so that he can play the mini games he likes. However, this definitely takes away the sense of accomplishment since he can't "earn" all of the best on a guest account.

The game is fun initially - but after some play - some games no longer are an option. We haven't rescued all the animals, and yet - we can't play the Matching game, OR the Features game. Stuck using the Maze and Scratch games to find the rest.



And, no animal facts are given unless the child makes an error - no learning takes place until the child 'unlocks' an animal.



Oh well.. good to pass time, but there are much better Leapster games to spend money on - this ones entertainment and learning value is limited - VERY limited.

I got this OUTWIT game to go with my daughter's Leapster this Christmas. She is consistently amused by it and finds it easy to navigate. I think this is a good educational game for pre-school and kindergarten age kids. The timed challenges are simple ones such as identifying the 'misfit' in a group of similar objects, recognizing patterns in a a series of objects, and memory match challenges. It might not hold the attention of an older child who has already mastered these skills, but would be great for young children.

Purchased this cartridge for my very active 5 year old son for Christmas. Unfortunately, I can't speak for the educational content because I have not played the games. I can tell you however, that he loves playing this cartridge. He loves dinosaurs and this game keeps drawing him back. I think he especially likes the fact that as he earns points from each game on the cartridge he then gets to "break" rocks to uncover the dinosaur bones. Eventually, he uncovers enough bones to put together the complete dinosaur. It's mostly just pure fun and would probably hold most boys his age interest.

This game--like many a Leapster game--is pretty good, but when you get to the dinosaur maze, there are control-pad issues that you and your children will struggle with, such that it becomes a bear to navigate. Essentially, the dinosaur goes left and right just fine, but when you want it to go up or down, you need crackerjack timing and surgical precision. My children don't play this one very much due solely to that issue. Too bad. Seemed like a good game.

Got it for my daughter who needed a bit more practice with math than I had time to give her. She didn't understand this at first. Played each game with her and now loves it. She is at level 2 (it has 3 levels for like 5 mini-games I believe it is). Wish there was more on this cartridge, but pleased with what is. I have a toddler who will be three at the end of the year. She's pretty fast at picking up games and out-grew her LittleLeaps DVD game sets early this year. So I bought her the Leapster when I saw it on sale for 30 bucks a few months ago. It came with two games pre-loaded; the coloring/drawing game and the Bunny game where he has to cross the river by jumping logs. At first she just liked seeing what happened when the bunny jumped into the water... so she lost interest in it and only colored with the other game. So last week I bought this game, which is geared for K-2nd grade and she LOVES it!! Because there are so many different games and each game has simple levels she's able to play level 1 on most of them and especially loves the monster game and About Face which she has no problem following the simple instructions. I know the math and advanced levels of the word games are beyond her at this point, but she still likes to get the "sticks" to be the same hight, or click on the letters in the word find box... It's great that she has something that will grow with her now!

This Leapster game is surpringly entertaining. It definitely teaches basic math concepts and builds memorizations skills. It appeals to both of my boys. My three year old has a difficult time grasping the activities but can play the monster memory game. By trial and error, my five year old progressed through all the levels on his own. For a while it was his favorite Leapster game until he got Batman Strength in Numbers! Now he can't put that down!

This is the fifth game my four year old son received for his Leapster. Puzzled is all he has played for the last month and he LOVES it. I think the games were a bit of a challenge to him at first since he's only four but now he's up to level 3 in many of the games. There are six games in all on this cartridge and he enjoys every single one. Every kid is different, so you never truly know what will be a hit with your child. He also has Cars, Nemo, Pet Pals and WallE. This one has been his favorite by a long shot, followed by Pet Pals.
