 "Keeps my toddler occupied" 2009-12-30
By Aamir Khan (Chicago, IL USA)
We bought this for our 2 1/2 year old. He plays around on a regular laptop so using this Leapfrog was fairly easy for him. He is fascinated by the colors and music, and is learning to play along with the keyboard. The game console is easy to set up, and has so far held up well even after a few falls. All in all, we would recommend it for the 3-5 year olds.

"Great toy, one design flaw" 2009-12-28
By Avid Reader
I purchased this game for my 2.5 yr old. She is advanced in this area and I felt she would be able to handle this toy even though it says for 3 and up. She is on Level 2 on the built in computer games already.

I think the graphics are perfectly fine. The games teach basic keyboard use, which is great, and my daughter has room to grow with this toy.

My issue with it, to my surprise, has not been mentioned in other reviews and I find it hard to believe I am the only one.

My issue would be the size of the paw print mouse pad. It is rather small. Mousing is hard for a child to learn and she often runs out of space on the pad before she gets there on her own and she doesn't know to pick the mouse up and move it to the center and start again. We took the pad off and she uses the table for the mouse pad which has helped. The mouse isn't the best for a kid to learn on but you can't get better for the price. Anyway, mousing can be exhausting for a child just learning how to use it and half the computer is mousing so she is already limited to half of the computer. I don't want her to get bored with the toy so my problem is finding other cartridges to buy that don't have mostly mousing.

We were given CARS which says QWERTY and mousing but the Level 1 is ALL mouse so she does it for about 10 min with constant help before she moves on to another toy. So this game is not for her yet. I have to find a game that will keep her interested while she gets better with the mouse.

"Great to Teach Toddler How to Use Mouse & Keyboard" 2009-12-16
By Michelle in MD (Central Maryland)
My daughter is 3 and has had this for almost a year. When she first got it, we had to sit with her and help her. But, with practice, she can now do it all by herself. While this doesn't teach her about numbers or letters (she already knew them) it did/does teach her about using a mouse and keyboard. She is getting pretty fast at finding the letters on the keyboard. She will play for about an hour without help. I would definitely recommend this for a toddler!!!

"We now own our THIRD Clickstart!!!" 2009-11-30
By T. Harris (Chicsgo)
I bought this for my daughter 2 years ago for Christmas. Within 9 months the thing just wouldn't work anymore! It wouldn't turn on and off using the button on the unit, it was just stay on anytime the adapter was plugged in. Then I would just get a white and black screen, with AND without cartridges! The great Target in my area decide to let us exchange it, just for it to do the EXACT same thing about 4 months later!!! So on Black Friday, and after my daughter pleads, I bought a new one for 19.99. Looking at the keyboard it appears it has some upgrades (on/off button) so HOPEFULLY they fixed whatever is causing it to completely break down!!

"Durable, Educational AND Fun - a wonderful toy!" 2009-10-23
By Amy Mcfarland (California)
My son received this for his second birthday, and while he was admittedly too young to get the full benefit, he is now three and wants to use it every day. It has familiarized him with a QWERTY keyboard, which is fantastic in my book since many kids' laptop and computer toys put letters in alphabetical order, not how they are on a real keyboard. The mouse can also be moved to either side, so if you have a lefty or a righty, a quick move gets the mouse where they need it.

The Clickstart comes with a few games pre-loaded, some that deal with letters and the keyboard, some with arrow keys and some with the mouse. There are also two levels, so beginners and kiddos who have some experience with it can each have a good time.

My son loves the ABC tree, which starts asking children to press any letter they like, and then progresses into asking them to find specific letters on the keyboard. The keyboard is color-coded (each of three lines has a different color), which also makes it easier to learn your way around the keyboard. If my son ever gets stuck on a letter, he'll ask me what color it is so he can find it easier.

His other favorite game is Scout's House, which involves using the mouse to direct the puppy around his house and backyard - another great game!
