"Disappointed - poor customer service" 2010-04-07
By T. Roper (Kansas City, MO)
We received Skippy as a gift for our 1 1/2 year old. The puppy worked the first day and then stopped moving his legs and wouldn't follow his bone. I called VTech customer service. They walked me through how to "reset" Skippy, which did get his legs moving again, but he still did not follow his bone. The customer service rep argued with me that he was not supposed to follow his bone. I pressed the button on Skippy and he said "I'll follow my bone" and then read to the rep from the user's manual how he is supposed to follow his bone. The rep relented and said I could pay to ship the dog to them and that they would ship me a replacement product. I don't think I should have to pay for the shipping and insurance since it is *their* product that is defective, but VTech would not negotiate on this. I am still shocked that the rep would argue with me and since they lack customer service skills and will not assist the customer in paying for shipping for a product they made poorly, I will not be buying VTech toys in the future.

 "pup" 2010-03-03
By Michelle Reeves (muskegon, usa)
I think it's better for a 3 year old and older. It doesn't keep their interest for long if too young to comprehend. I put it away for later because she was throwing it around although it's quite durable.

 "Negative Stars!!!" 2010-02-01
By ItPays2Share (United States)
If there were any way possible to not give it any stars, I would do that. It does say that one star means that you HATE IT so I guess that works. My son too loves dogs so I thought I would get this because what it says it does sounded pretty cute, HOWEVER, it DOES NOT do it!!! It never finds the bone nor follows my child like it says. I think that it is designed to run into walls and get stuck on chairs as its main task. It, for me, is one of the most frustrating toys that I have ever bought any of my 6 kids! It does not do what it says it will so DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! I should have read these reviews before I went to get another one to see if I just got a DUD, but nope it does exactly the same things. BEWARE OF SKIPPY THE UNSMART PUP!

"Skippy the NOT SO SMART pup." 2010-01-03
By Lisa (Long Island, NY)
Disappointing! This was received as a gift for my 19month old - he's only mildly interested. My 3.5yr old was just trying to play with it. She grew increasingly frustrated that it wouldn't find the bone. Its loud and repetitive and doesn't do much of anything. Not recommended.

"Poor Quality Toy, Fails To Deliver On Promise" 2010-01-01
By Kyle "Pezman" Peschel
I never write product reviews, but this one frustrated me enough to do so...

My wife wants to throw the toy out since it annoys her so much. Because it was a gift from my brother I decided to sit down and figure the toy out so I could defend it. Here are my findings:

1) The toy promises to "Find the Bone" which means locate where the remote is (presumably in your child's hand). In short, it doesn't. Ever. Even when the remote is directly in front of the child.

2) The slider on the remote appears to do nothing. All three buttons initiate roughly the same state. "Say things with song".

3) There is NO volume control, and it can get pretty loud.

4) When your child becomes bored and walks away, it will say something every six seconds! It does this four times before shutting off!

5) Some of the songs don't have words.

6) It repeatedly gets stuck, even when there is no logical reason why it should leave the wide open area and go towards furniture.

7) The "Learning" words aspect is weak at best. It knows... "Front Leg, Back Leg, Tail, Nose, Ear, and Head". It doesn't indicate Left or Right.

We ultimately allowed our son to keep the remote since he likes that part the best, and we'll be throwing out a brand new dog toy since there is no way to make it go silent and without batteries it is just another thing to trip over.

I'm sorry I'm so negative, as a tech geek myself; I would have loved to enjoy this toy with my son. Keep your $30 dollars and purchase something else.
