Make the most of your toddler's screen time with this interactive learning system that "reads" a story to him via the family TV set and builds story comprehension and vocabulary skills. Once the easy setup is complete, pop the included DVD-ROM, Where The Wild Things Are, or any of the compatible classic books on disc into the DVD player and the animated and narrated story begins to play. With the provided child-friendly wireless console, kids can choose an interactive version of the story, where they will be asked comprehension questions about the plot or can highlight words on the screen to learn their meanings. There is also a game-playing mode, which reinforces the storyline through fun games, and a self-reading mode for emerging readers who want to turn off the narration and try tackling the words on their own. The sturdy console has large, easy-to use buttons for pausing or playing the story, turning the pages forward or backward, accessing the menu or activities, and answering questions. This system runs on three "AA" batteries (included).

My 5 year old grandson got bored quickly. He was started on a computer very early & this system is immature to him.
The earlier a child is exposed to this system the better,as it can be a very useful learning tool. It does require patient parental guidance until child becomes comfortable with use of the console.

I am an English teacher with a 6 year old little boy so I jumped at this toy. My son loves books and reading as well as video games so I thought this would be a good combo. I read the reviews and was prepared to be frustrated by the set up process. However, like a few others, my setup would not work ...ever. I got all the buttons to work except the asterisk. I tried a different remote. Same problem. I finally figured out that the asterisk button is supposed to be the 2 button on the remote. So, I just let him play with controller and dvd, but whenever he has to press the asterisk button, I told him to press 2 on the remote control. Annoying when you paid for the thing to work, but hey, at least he can play.

Well I bought this for my nephew and I never could even get it to program. There is a recording that is supposed to guide you at one point but it never came on for me. I followed the instructions and looked at the troubleshooting but still no voice. I am going to contact the company tomorrow.

This is one of the most frustrating toys to set up I have ever used. After getting the controller out of the box and watching the DVD setup, I tried to program the controller using method #1. Placing the DVD remote and the controller on a flat surface as instructed didn't work, you actually have to make sure both of the remote's eye and the controller eye are EXACTLY in front of each other. I must have cycled though the set up process 12 times before I almost threw the thing out of the window. My dvd player isn't that old (1year) so I know that it's not a matter of my DVD player being too old. I tried method #2 and #3, with no avail. Just the simple fact that there are three different methods you can use to set up the controller should tell you something. I finally decited to take it back. This toy is NOT worth the hasstle of trying to set it up, and could cause some major frustration.

I had difficulty setting up the system. The directions for the set up were very easy to follow, but either my remote or the Read with Me DVD remote was not picking up the proper signals, and it took about 6 attempts to finally get it all programmed. Once we finally got it working, the Read with Me DVD remote did not work well (had to push buttons several times to get the desired action) and the CD skipped or repeated questions. Very frustrating! However, my three year old son did enjoy watching the story being told on TV. He just couldn't operate the remote very well...not because he didn't understand but because of the poor quality of the product. I think it is a piece of junk and will not buy more videos!
