"lack of instruction for what the child is suppose to do & poor graphics making the goal objects hard to see" 2008-01-05
By Kathy Mccormick (Round Rock, Texas)
Well, I'll start by saying I have my Master of Elementary Education and I am myself a gamer so I am more picky about things than others might be. One thing I don't like about the entire system and all the games is that they are designed so that the screen 'bounces' the whole time your child plays. This is trying on the eyes. That aside, some games are better than others. The graphics are too small on this game and blend in with the background.

Also, there is no game play instruction for the child in any of these games, so you have to figure out which objects are 'good' or 'bad'. For example, in this game, falling books are 'bad', and so is running into the blue cat, which causes you to loose life points. My son wanted to have his character play with the blue cat that is normally part of the stories.

I really expect better overall design and thought about how a child plays a game, and more instruction to the child is needed. Since this was my son's first system, I'd hoped they would provide pointers to him on what to do. In the VSmile ELMO game, one of the internal games gives some direction on what to do (such as: "hit the colored buttons to ...."), but I haven't seen that on this one yet.

Honestly, he was almost as ready to play on the grown-ups Wii bowling game and needed about the same level of assistance from us. When I was a girl, I played Mario Brothers. Perhaps my memory is off, but I thought the graphics back then were a bit better (or at least the same) in terms of contrast between objects internal to the game and it wasn't as hard for me to figure out how to play the game (how to move and what the goals were).

At one point in this game, Bob climbs up on a roof to find missing cutouts while trying to aviod roof pieces of the same tan/yellow color and pattern from falling on his head. Given that the cause of the roof holes is someone kicking brown boulders into the roof, it would have been better to have those as the hazard. They would have been easier to see. As it is, the little squares that fall and look just like the roof Bob is trying to fix blend in too much with the roof so my son doesn't see them coming.

I'll add one other comment: We bought the second joystick hoping that my son's younger sister would one day play with him. The games do not easily guide you or your child through how to select options such as "two player". In addition to that, I would love to see the games have a two player version that allows one player to play on the easy level and one player to play on the harder level. Smart programing would allow for this since many families are like ours and have several kids of different ages that could play the same game, just with minor differences. Failing that, it would be nice just to be able to toggle between the easy and hard settings more easily.

 "Son loves it!" 2008-01-02
By M. Hurlbut (Kansas)
This is definatly a little boy game, my daughter is not intrested. The alphebet part isn't as helpful as one would think because it doesn't actually identify the letters just has you pick them up in order with arrows to tell you how to get to it, so I kid like my son can rush through it and not really pay attention to the letters and not get much out of it. It really does help with matching skills and such. and hand eye cordination. It is a fun game for my son and he enjoys playing it over and over but he just doesn't get as much out of it as I would like.

Overall the game is pretty good for my 3 year old. The graphics are pretty good and the game is fun. In time, when he masters the game, there are no additional levels to expand the game.

 "Poor Quality" 2009-12-27
By Jen (Friendswood, TX USA)
The quality of this game leaves much to be desired. My original Super Mario Brother's Nintendo game from 1987 had better sound quality than this game. Sponge Bob's voice is garbled and sounds terrible. He doesn't even sound like Sponge Bob. It's really quite annoying. No, it's not my television... all my DVDs, tv shows, and my XBOX 360 games are awesome on it. I love Sponge Bob, he's one of the few cartoons I can stand to watch with my daughter... but this game is a HUGE disappointment. I can't believe I spent $40 on this thing. I wish I could get my money back. Well not really. I just wish the people who made it cared more about the kids they were making it for. I wish they put more effort into their product and produced a game worth the price.

"Great fun for my four year old" 2009-04-10
By Sarah A. Asp (Dayton, Ohio)
My 4 year old son loves his smart cycle and this game is by far his favorite. The graphics aren't especially good but it doesn't matter to the age group for which it was designed. Even my older children (6 and 8) like to take turns. I would recommend this product to any budding gamer especially for the exercise and educational value.

"I like the bike but hate the game" 2009-03-24
By Miranda Brummett
I purchased the bike for my 3 year old son. One game came with the bike and he liked it, but got board. Sponge Bob is his favorite character so I ordered this game. The game was so stupid. It was almost exactly like the game that came with the bike. The only difference is it was Sponge Bob themed.

"great learning tool, especially for boys" 2009-12-30
By Jessica Normile
This game is perfect for any little boy, but girls will "dig it" too. (Get it?) The game that comes with the smartbike focuses on letters, and this one is more about numbers and other math concepts. Fisher Price really does a good job looking at toys from a kids point of view. It's easy enough to use for a 3 year old to use, and right up his alley. You can pick a truck and decide the color, and whether it should be clean or dirty. (dirty, every time!) It comes with several mini games, in which kids build a shed, go off roading collecting items (which they will add up at the end) and squirt puzzle pieces to put together. It really keeps him engaged and they use the pedals for most of the games, so they keep moving, too.

 "Yes We Can!" 2010-02-13
By J. Bailey (Mpls, MN)
The video games from Click Start Leap Frog are fun, educational and durable. They make learning for my 4 year old pre-schooler fun. He uses the system all by himself, from putting the games into and pulling them out of the system, to running the mouse, arrows and other keyboard functions. He's better at the "computer" than I am! We have 7 of the games, which encompasses most of the Click Start line, and he enjoys all of them, but Diego is his favorite. I like that they have 2 levels of play, which make it harder for him as he gets better. All in all, a great product, and I recommend it for all parents of a young pre-school aged child.

"More for a click start beginner" 2009-12-29
By Amy Mcfarland (California)
My son just turned three and has been using his Click Start for about a year now. We absolutely love the Click Start system, but are not so fond of this game. He's played it four times since getting it last month, and has lost interest. It would be fantastic for a beginner, or as a first game for the Click Start. My son has the Diego game and that one seems to teach the same things in a more fun, more educational manner. With the Bob the Builder, even on level 2, the games don't take long to master and to get old. Each mode teaches something different, whether it's letters or numbers, or learning how to use the mouse and arrow keys. Once your child knows how to move the arrows back and forth and click on something, however, they've pretty much exhausted this game. Unless your child is just starting out with the Click Start, or is a huge bob the builder fan, I would recommend the Diego game instead for learning letters, numbers and use of the keyboard and mouse.

 "ClickStart Games" 2009-03-04
By Matt Ondrejko (Leuven, Belgium)
I bought this game for my 4 year old daughter. She does a good job playing the educational games and she is learning how to use a computer keyboard and mouse without using our "real laptops". I would recommend this system and the games to any parent who wants to get their kids involved in computer skills and educational software. Oh ya, and the graphics are better than my Atari!

 "great!!!!" 2008-10-05
By J. Swihart
My son recieved this game for his 3rd b.day a few months ago and he just loves it! He can have muck catch letters that bob throws down to him, he can put colored shapes onto a blueprint to help build a building, and have one of the characters go along a maze to get letters. We bought him the system last christmas when he was about 2 and1/2 with the animal art studio. Since he was a little young for it I thought that game would be the best for him at that time and he could do 2 of the 3 games on it. This system is great! Just wish it was cheaper!
