My daughter got this toy for Christmas, and shortly after Christmas, we sent the money for the caterpillars. Months later we realized that we never received the caterpillars (by then it was too hot to send them), so we contacted Spinmaster and told them when we sent the check and when it was cashed and that we never got any caterpillars. Their website said they would respond in 48 hours. We never received any response. Now we have an empty bug house and no bugs. We feel like we totally wasted our money.

Butterfly house was as expected.

Mailed away for Caterpillars they came in about 2 weeks they were great and easy, one was already hanging from the top the other 4 were hanging by the next day. They are now hanging in the house we are waiting for them to emerge. My 2 and 8 year old girls and my 4 year old nephew LOVED watching us move them from the cup to the house. GREAT ENTERTAINMENT the adults and kids can't wait to see and feed the butterflies.

My kids love the tree house, but my problem is the company. First, they need to say how much shipping and handling on the caterpillars are. It was an extra $25! They messed up my order, and when trying to fix it, they sent it anyway. Now I have two treehouses and I only wanted one. Then the charge to my card was a different amount than the receipt they sent me. Now I am trying to fix that but their customer service line is always closed. And they won't help me online- just keep telling me to call. DON'T BUY THIS! IF ANYTHING IS WRONG YOU WILL NEVER GET IT FIXED! BUY FROM A DIFFERENT COMPANY!

Praying mantis' are really cool, so I bought this praying mantis kit. It has been about 3 weeks and it still hasn't hatched!! It says.. and I quote: '... well I cannot find the box so I won't quote, but it basically says: You get to catch your own insects!! YAYYYY!!!... NO! THAT IS BAD!!! But, to my surprise, I found a dead mosquito inside the 'inclosure' already! Hmmm, this isn't too bad!

But, if I were you, I would buy a similar product except it is a kit where you get your own hermit crabs and you can paint your shells! I think that's pretty awesome. This is probably a better thing for boys than girl though....EEEWWW! lol

This kit is doing well so far, except they haven't hatched yet for only THREE-FOUR WEEKS!!!

I wanted a praying mantis habitat to hatch praying mantis eggs I ordered for my greenhouse. The habitat kit I ordered from Amazon came quicker than I expected, I actually ended up receiving a bigger and better habitat than I thought I was getting, and it is very good quality. I can't put my eggs in it until spring, but I don't doubt that it will do me proud.

I purchased this for my 5 year old Grandson so he can learn how bugs are hatched and born. He was so Happy when the mantis started to come out of there nest. This also was a good learning experience for him, took it to his classroom for show and tell. Since they are not allowed to take toys for show and tell and told the classroom about praying mantis

along with some printed coloring praying mantis for all the classroom.

I'm an adult and I'm struggling. I can't imagine what this would be like for a kid. I had over 200 hatchlings. I'm down to about 60 at first molt. They eat wingless fruit flies. These may/may not be sent with the mantises and there may/may not be an extra charge. Whether you get them or buy them, the supply is woefully inadequate. I started buying them at PetCo where 20 live flies are $[...]. The mantises can eat three flies a day each. I then paid $[...] for stock, growth medium, and breeding chambers to grow the flies - which take up to a month to produce a new generation of flies, and that's turned out to be another worthless, expensive nightmare. Fruit flies can eat fruit - but only when it's rotten. Rotten fruit stinks and gets moldy. Both flies and mantises can die from that. The mantises need to be indoors where it's warm, as do the flies so you can't just put the parts that stink outdoors. The live food that these guys need, and the food that the food needs, is a whole level of complexity and expense you may not be ready for. Finally, it is suggested that you separate the mantises into their own little mantis condos since they eat each other - especially if you don't have and abundance of other food for them to eat. I was fortunate to find small plastic jars. That still leaves me cleaning, adding a water source, and adding flies to dozens of containers. I spent nearly four hours Friday night cleaning everybody up and swapping out the fruit I've been using for the flies. A horse would be less work! You can treat this casually and basically kill all your mantises, and I suppose that would be a learning experience. If you want to come out of this with happy, healthy, full grown mantises, even a couple, you're going to pay a lot of money and do a lot of work. You may want to try the butterflies!
