This is a great toy except for one thing, the blocks fit in my son's mouth. He learned this trick today. We have now thrown away the blocks and are contacting Vtech and the CPSC. In fact, the blocks fit inside a paper towel tube, the test for choking hazards in infants. What a disappoint.

My son received his v-tech blender for a Christmas gift when he was 8 months old, he is now 11 months old and loves it just as much as he did 3 months ago! He loves the music and the noises it makes, from the beginning when he first got it he started pushing the shapes in with his finger after we would place them in the correct slots, he now matches the shapes and colors on his own at 11 months old, which I think is great :) He does put the shapes in his mouth which was a concern at first due to the other reviews, but no problems as of now. I just make sure I am watching him while he is playing with them. I would recommend this toy, very educational and fun. My son usually gets bored with the same toy pretty easy, but he seems attached to this one.

When my 9 mo old daughter got this toy for Christmas she just loved it. However it didn't take long for her to realize she could fit the shapes completely into her mouth. So now she is only allowed to play with the blender and the shapes are put away. They are much too small and I really think this toy should probably be recalled.

I have read all over the Internet that many parents share the same concerns that I have regarding the blocks for this toy. The size of the blocks is just right that it can get lodged behind the teeth in a child's mouth. Luckily, I have not heard of an emergency room visit regarding this toy, but several reviews stated that there were nervous moments where parents had to pry their child's mouth open enough to dislodge the toy from behind their teeth. I love this toy for the sheer fact that more kitchen-style toys need to be available to both genders as learning tools. My 18-month old son almost lodged a block behind his teeth within 15 minutes of opening this toy last year for christmas. The toy is great otherwise...so just toss the blocks and let them have at it.

This is the best shape sorter I've found. I couldn't decide if I should get it as my son is 17 months and the package states 9-36 months. Sometimes toys labeled as such are too easy or quickly outgrown at this point.
We've only had this toy for a couple of days, but my son loves it. He plays with it almost non-stop. That's rare for any one particular toy. He loves putting the (5) shapes in the blender, taking them out or dumping (nice large handle)them and putting the lid on. The lid is an oval, which could be more challenging for younger children. The shapes are difficult to put in the designated holes, however he's getting the hang of it. In fact I kind of like that it's a little difficult to put in at his age as it makes it a little more challenging. He has to be a little more deliberate in his actions. The blender recognizes when you put anything inside and when you put the lid on, as well as what shapes you're putting through the sides. There's also a couple songs and buttons. He likes to press them. There is also a volume button on the bottom, but it's still a little loud when on the lowest setting. However, most toys are. The blend button is a little challenging and takes dexterity. He hasn't quite gotten the hang of that yet. It seems it's supposed to blend slower when the shapes are inside so that there's no danger to anyone. If there was true power to it there might be some danger to children. Anyway, it is NOT a hazard and I think it's an awesome feature.
As for the stickers on the shapes, they are shiny stickers to attract a child's attention. At this age they're not of any concern to me. I do however, understand the concern with younger children. It likely won't kill them, however it's not ideal for them to be eating stickers. I really only see this happening if it constantly gets wet to loosen the stickers or they knaw or chew on the shapes. Maybe vtech could get rid of the stickers.
Overall, this is the best shape sorter out there and I really think it's most ideal for 12 months or older. In fact I truly love it for my 17 month old son. Don't get the Fisher price cookie jar as it had annoying sounds and has less functions for a higher price.
